random things
Hei assalamualaikum,
I just wanna share with you guys about what I learn today. Even most of the time I feel sleepy during classes.
I learnt about consciousness in my psychology class. There are two types of consciousness,
First is Waking Consciousness is when we are fully aware of our situation.
Second, Altered State of Consciousness is when our attention shift from one to another. For example, you're driving, but suddenly your mind shift to your phone, so there is shift quality of attention. The same when we are taking cough medicine, we tend to get sleep and we will fall into altered state consciousness.
So, let's talk about sleep. In our brain there is suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) which control our sleep pattern. This SCN sensitive toward light, and it tells people when to sleep and when to wake up. Its function is like our internal clock.
As light fades, SCN will tell pineal gland to release melatonin to feel sleepy. Sometimes we will fall asleep even we never intend to fall asleep.
Basically, adults need 7-8 hours at night to perform their best during day. If not, it will lead to sleep deprivation which results in micro sleep. What is micro sleep? It is when we accidentally fall asleep a few minutes without realizing.
Why we need sleep actually? Hobby?
Theories on why we sleep is for adaptive and restoring.
Sleep is important to memory formation. If we lack of sleep it will result ti problems in concentration and irritability.
I found new fact yesterday. So basically animals which belong in predator group tend to sleep more, whilst the prey sleep less. The animal in prey group sleep little to protect themselves from predator.
Example of predator is lion, tiger, bat, cat.
Bat sleep for 20 hours. They only awake at night.
Cat need 12 hours sleep.
There are stages of sleep.
Stage 1: NREM: is light sleep, it is between awake and sleep. At this moment, we will have hallucination/ visual event that we think about before we sleep. Sometimes we tend to hypnic jerk where knees, legs, or whole body jerks.
Stage 2: NREM 2: body temperature drops, heartbeat start to slow, we will have sleep spindles.
Stage 3: NREM 3: blood pressure, breathing rate drop; deepest sleep occur; brain at the lowest functioning.
Stage 4: REM sleep: brain becomes more active, dream occur.
So actually when we are sleeping and we had a dream our eyes will move rapidly under eyelids -it is called REM sleeping. This is when sometimes we have sleep paralysis and we cannot move muscles during REM sleep.
People who have REM behavior disorder will experience walk by their sleeping. They tend to act out their dream, for example talking whilst sleeping, shouting and etc. It is associated with neurological conditions.
That's all I learn for my psychological class! hoho
My teacher said to me when in Ilm Kalam Class, she said that, sometimes we cannot tell common people about what we learn because they will misunderstood, because they don't learn how we learn. For example, I learn with my teacher, about the whole chapter of the book. But what I share to you guys is only one percent of the knowledge, and common people don't reach up to our level to understand those, so they tend to misinterpret.
For example, you're in level 2, but I teach you guys knowledge in level 6, so you guys will misinterpret our knowledge as wrong because you don't understand yet.
So, that's why when learning, there's step by step action need to be taken so we won't feel hectic or 'cannot relate' moment in our brain.
That's all I guess. Tomorrow I'll write more.
